Neve Briones

My mom raised me all by herself at 16 years old, and the only reason I got the opportunity to go to NASA was because we lived at La Posada right next door. But, in my time there I was able to grow a lot academically. I can remember achieving the Principal’s award, which was a very big deal for my mom. Teachers like Dr. Jackson is what makes the difference, her support and encouragement is a part of my success until this day. She is the only teacher I remember having at NASA, and she has always been my favorite. After high school, I went to California State University, East Bay where I learned a lot about what pathway I wanted to take, and what drives me. I changed my majors, and ended up getting a bachelor’s degree in Child Development at California State University, Los Angeles. Now, I am currently working on my master’s degree at CSULA in Child Development as well. I am inspired to learn and research in depth about ways in which we can support low-income families to be resilient. I am also a graduate assistant for a professor at CSULA.

Mi mamá me crió sola cuando tenía 16 años y la única razón por la que tuve la oportunidad de ir a NASA fue porque vivíamos en La Posada, justo al lado. Durante mi tiempo allí pude crecer mucho académicamente. Recuerdo haber obtenido el premio del director, lo cual fue muy importante para mi mamá. Maestros como la Dra. Jackson son los que marcan la diferencia, su apoyo y aliento son parte de mi éxito hasta el día de hoy. Ella es la única maestra que recuerdo haber tenido en la NASA y siempre ha sido mi favorita. Después de la secundaria, fui a la Universidad Estatal de California, East Bay, donde aprendí mucho sobre el camino que quería tomar y lo que me motiva. Cambié de especialidad y terminé obteniendo una licenciatura en Desarrollo Infantil en la Universidad Estatal de California en Los Ángeles. Ahora también estoy trabajando en mi maestría en CSULA en Desarrollo Infantil. Me inspira aprender e investigar en profundidad sobre las formas en que podemos ayudar a las familias de bajos ingresos a ser resilientes. También soy asistente graduado de un profesor en CSULA, donde aprendo prácticas sobre educación.
