Angelica Ortega
ELD Coordinator
Hello, my name is Angelica M. Ortega-Ramirez. I have been teaching at NEW Academy of Science and Arts for 16 years. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade at NASA. The community and the families that I have met throughout my years here, have become my extended family. My goal every year is to inspire our students to reach their highest potential. Hola, mi nombre es Angélica M. Ortega-Ramirez. He estado enseñando en NEW Academy of Science and Arts durante 16 años. He enseñado kinder, primer grado y segundo grado en NASA. La comunidad y las familias que he conocido a lo largo de mis años aquí, se han convertido en mi familia extendida. Mi objetivo cada año es inspirar a nuestros estudiantes a alcanzar su máximo potencial. ¡Vamos Rockets! ¡Vamonos!

Jamileth Barrera
Academic Growth and Support Specialist (AGSS)
Due to her passion of supporting multilingual learners, Mrs. Barrera has transitioned from intervention teacher to a general education classroom teacher for grades 4 and 5. Today, she is our school’s Academic Growth and Support Specialist (AGSS). Mrs. Barrera coaches/mentors new and experienced teachers with valuable instructional resources, lesson plans, and research-based professional development trainings, including how to use the online platforms (CLEVER apps), history, science, art, and the language arts standards to implement Project-Based Learning. Mrs. Barrera is also our school’s Gifted and Talented Education Program (GATE) coordinator. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and received her Master's Degree in Instructional Leadership from Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles (MSMU). Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate degree at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Educational Leadership and Administration for Social Justice (Ed.D).
Debido a su pasión por apoyar a los estudiantes multilingües, la Sra. Barrera ha pasado de maestra de intervención a maestra de educación general para los grados 2, 3, 4 y 5. Hoy, ella es nuestra asesora de crecimiento y apoyo académico. La Sra. Barrera entrena y asesora a los maestros con valiosos recursos de instrucción, planes de lecciones y capacitaciones de desarrollo profesional basadas en investigaciones sobre cómo usar las plataformas en línea (las applicaciones en CLEVER), historia, la ciencia, el arte, y los estándares del lenguaje para implementar el aprendizaje basado en proyectos. La Sra. Barrera también es nuestra coordinadora del Programa de Educación para Dotados y Talentosos (GATE). Ella se graduó de la Universidad de California, Los Ángeles (UCLA) y recibió su Maestría en Liderazgo Instruccional de la Universidad Mount Saint Mary's, Los Ángeles (MSMU). Actualmente, ella está cursando su doctoradoen la Universidad Loyola Marymount (LMU) en Liderazgo Educativo y Administración pro la Justicia Social (Ed.D).


Anthony Bates
Teacher
My name is Anthony Bates and I will be your child’s 3rd grade teacher this year. I am originally from Michigan. I attended college at the University of Missouri and I moved out to LA in 2003. I love reading, the outdoors, sports, watching movies and spending time with my family. I am so excited to be with NEW Academy. I have been teaching 17 years in elementary school classrooms.

Hi! My name is Yoana Sanchez-Valenzuela. I have been with NEW Academy of Science and Arts since 2013. I graduated from UCLA with a degree in International Development, and I am currently the NEW/NEW Academy Liaison. I also coach the NASA Dance team! I have had the privilege to work with and help out so many amazing people, and I truly love my job! Go Rockets!
