When I found out I was expecting a baby, I knew my baby would attend New Academy Canoga Park Elementary (NACP) School. Since the school’s beginnings, I liked how the administration intentionally involved parents and the community. Above all, I appreciate how students who attended had success in the Dual Language Program offered by NACP. It’s exciting to me that students learn in both English and Spanish. When it was time to enroll my son into Kindergarten, he began attending NACP.
By providing classes in English and Spanish at school, our Latino children get comfortable with their complex American identities, without forgetting their native language or roots. It’s really sad to see so many Latino children who either don’t know or don’t want to learn how to speak Spanish. These children don’t know what they’re missing out on. Spanish is the second most spoken language in this country. Many people speak Spanish at home with their families, especially with elders who don’t really speak English at all.
It makes me proud to see how my son is able to navigate his studies in two languages. He started in Kindergarten and we’ve been a part of the New Academy Family for 5 years now. It’s impressive to see how much he’s learned in that time. My son is able to communicate with his grandparents who don’t speak English. He’s even comfortable with helping translate when necessary and he does it very well.
I’ve been a part of this community for more than 15 years. I’ve lived through and witnessed the impact New Academy Canoga Park has had on the community, our children, and parents like myself. NACP has not only ensured high achieving results for our students, but they’ve helped inform me and I know they’re programs that will ensure my son’s future success.

El Programa de Lenguaje Dual en New Academy Canoga Park da Esperanza a Nuestras Generaciones Futuras
Cuando supe que estaba esperando un bebé, sabía que mi hijo iría a la escuela primaria New Academy Canoga Park (NACP). Desde los inicios de la escuela, me gustó cómo la administración involucró intencionalmente a los padres y la comunidad. Sobre todo,aprecio cómo los estudiantes que asistieron tuvieron éxito en el Programa de Lenguaje Dual ofrecido por NACP. Es emocionante para mí que los estudiantes aprendan tanto en inglés como en español. Cuando llegó el momento de inscribir a mi hijo en kinder, comenzó a asistir a NACP.
Al brindar clases en inglés y español en la escuela, nuestros niños latinos se sienten cómodos con sus complejas identidades estadounidenses,sin olvidar su lengua materna o sus raíces. Es realmente triste ver a tantos niños latinos que no saben o no quieren aprender a hablar español. Estos niños no saben lo que se están perdiendo. El español es el segundo idioma más hablado en este país. Muchas personas hablan español en casa con sus familias, especialmente con personas mayores que realmente no hablan inglés en absoluto.
Me enorgullece ver cómo mi hijo puede navegar sus estudios en dos idiomas. Comenzó en kinder y hemos sido parte de la familia New Academy durante 5 años. Es impresionante ver cuánto ha aprendido en ese tiempo. Mi hijo puede comunicarse con sus abuelos que no hablan inglés. Incluso se siente cómodo ayudando a traducir cuando es necesario y lo hace muy bien.
He sido parte de esta comunidad por más de 15 años. He vivido y sido testigo del impacto que New Academy Canoga Park ha tenido en la comunidad, nuestros hijos y padres como yo. NACP no solo ha asegurado resultados de alto rendimiento para nuestros estudiantes, sino que también me han ayudado a informarme y sé que son programas que aseguran el futuro éxito de mi hijo.
